Former Sen. Dan Coats was sworn in as the U.S. ambassador to Germany on the 13th, at the request of the German government. (Although in the country, he was not slated to officially take over the position 'til later in the month.) Hundreds of people stood around the embassy for his brief appearnace, including Mohammed Ibrahim, who came to the site to let the world know that "most Palestinians are in mourning." "That's why we're here," he said. "We want to show our support for America."

Ingo Brandenburg and Laura Schroeder came to the event wearing large American flags to show their support. "All of Germany supports the U.S.," Schroeder said, "but I think Berlin shows it more. America was there for us, so we're standing with them now."
