Oskar's Hamburg, Germany October 2001 - May 2002 Redakteur (Editor) Headed up the English side of this bilingual magazine targeted at German and American high school students. Developed story ideas and worked with photographers, freelancers and layout artists to bring each piece to completion. Arthur Burns Fellowship Berlin, Germany August 2001 - October 2001 Fellow Awarded this fellowship by the International Center for Journalists upon graduating from Columbia University. The program provided the opportunity to work on pieces dealing with German history and culture, immigration issues and business affairs for German newspapers, including the Berliner Morgenpost and Bild, the fifth largest paper in the world. The News-Journal Daytona Beach, Florida February 1999 - August 2000 General Assignment Reporter Responsible for a mixture of breaking news coverage and enterprise work, focusing heavily, in both cases, on education and crime reporting. Concentrated on the southwest portion of Volusia County, where the News- Journal competes with three other papers, including one of the largest in Florida Moved to the position from a city government beat, responsible for covering city council, zoning and planning committees and other urban bureaucracies. Focused on deadline reporting and meeting coverage, plus writing feature stories. Religion Editor Supervised a team of correspondents and wrote one to two feature stories a week. Handled wire news.
