At least in the immediate aftermath of the attacks, even those calling for peace said they understood the need for those who killed thousands of innocents to be punished. This made for some interesting juxtapositions, such as marchers carrying signs saying "No World War III" and "An eye for an eye=blindness" -- while walking under banners an wearing stickers sating "Total Solidarity with U.S.A."

 

 

Of course, the flower-bringers, candle-bearings and marchers made the embassy area a complete media circus, with reporters running about willy-nilly, trying to find someone to tell them something. Most of the cops on hand, though, were simply there to help barricade the embassy, not to give out information.
